I am originally from San Antonio, TX but now reside and work in Santa Fe, NM. My background in photography is fine art, and dually it is my foundation because my father and grandfather are both artists as painters. I had once aspired to be a painter myself; however, being colorblind, I found it hard to paint what I saw. While taking my first photography class in high school my world became vast. I have learned to challenge myself by working with only color photography. The most prolific interest I have is the natural world. I stray away from the traditions in fine art nature photography by looking very closely at the ground we walk upon versus the scenic mountains and landscapes. Lichens, cracks in mud, stone, and grasses are examples of the subject matter in my work. Eliot Porter is a fine example of personal inspiration, and the photographic quality I strive for. My goal is to "see", and locate a style through repeatedly expressing a unique perspective within the language of visual art.
"You learn to see by practice. It's just like playing tennis, you get better the more you play. The more you look around at things, the more you see. The more you photograph, the more you realize what can be photographed and what can't be photographed. You just have to keep doing it."
